Sheathing with OX-IS | Air TIght CONTINUOUS INSULATION
I spent a lot of time researching sheathing trying to find just the right product. After all the was going to be the a core part of our build and a key component in helping our building remain efficient and air tight. These new products are reshaping the way buildings are constructed, with a growing focus on efficiency, durability, and sustainability. One standout product in this space that I found in my research was OX-IS structural sheathing by Ox Engineered Products, which combines multiple essential components into a single panel. Unlike traditional sheathing methods that require several layers to achieve adequate insulation, air and water resistance, and structural stability, OX-IS integrates all these features into one, making it a game changer for both residential and commercial buildings or my commercial like Residential back yard Office Shed! This streamlined approach reduced time, labor, and materials, and ended up being a significant cost savings while also improving the performance of the building envelope!
One of the most innovative aspects of OX-IS is its ability to provide structural integrity, insulation, and weather resistance all at once. Its proprietary design includes a durable core that meets structural load requirements, while the exterior features a continuous layer of insulation, offering an impressive R-value of 10. This is a notable improvement over traditional sheathing, which typically requires separate insulation to achieve comparable thermal performance. Additionally, OX-IS panels come with a built-in air and moisture barrier, eliminating the need for separate house wrap or vapor barriers, which further simplifies installation and minimizes potential points of failure in the building envelope.
The innovation behind OX-IS sheathing is not just in its multi functionality but also in its potential to contribute to energy-efficient, high-performance buildings. By reducing air infiltration and improving insulation, buildings constructed with OX-IS experience better thermal control, which in turn reduces heating and cooling costs. Its moisture resistance also helps to prevent long-term issues like mold and wood rot, enhancing the building’s longevity. These combined features make OX-IS a prime example of how modern materials are evolving to meet the increasing demands for sustainability, efficiency, and durability in construction.
All of these benefits are why we chose this system for our build. As you will see in the videos, I’m super please in the easy of install.
